FDA Recalls Products Containing Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Article Source: Online Shopping Store
MSNBC reports that the FDA is recalling some products containing a common flavor enhancer called hydrolyzed vegetable protein or HVP. The recall
is happening because of concern the products were tainted with salmonella.
The product, called hydrolyzed vegetable protein or HVP, is potentially in thousands of food products, including soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips and dressings because of the risk of salmonella tainting in the production line. HVP is manufactured by a Las Vegas company.
No illnesses have been reported, said Dr. Ian Williams, acting chief of outbreak response and prevention branch for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
You can see the recalled products here on FDA.gov. They include dips, dressing, dressing mix, pre-packaged meals, snack, snack mix products and soup mix products from several brands. HVP is used in thousands of products so the recall could potentially get bigger.
